The EC50 value of the test item in aquatic invertebrates was determined to be > 100 mg/L after 48 hours exposure.

Additional information

The acute immobilisation of the test item to Daphnia magna (STRAUS) was determined under GLP conditions according to EEC Directive 92/32/EEC, Method C.2. (December 1992), OECD Guideline 202 (April 1984), EPA OPPTS 850.1010 (Public Draft, April 1996I), ISO 6341: 1989 and ISO/DIS 10706. The test was performed in a static and closed system as a limit-test over a duration of 48 hours with the only nominal test concentration of 100 mg/L (measured concentration: 92 - 94 mg/L), along with a laboratory negative control (0 mg/L). Four replicates (with five Daphnids) each for the test concentration and the negative controls were used. A positive control was performed on 18 Aug 1999 (BASF project number: 97/0242/50/36), using the reference substance potassium dichromat.

The test met validity criteria with 0% of the control organisms showing immobilisation, signs of disease, stress, or unusual behaviour, and the minimum dissolved oxygen concentration in the test solutions at the end of the test was >3 mg O2/L (8.9 – 9.0 mg O2/L). The water quality measurements (e.g., temperature, pH) were also within the tolerance limits of the test organism. The test endpoint was based on the nominal concentration of the test item since the measured concentrations of the test item were within 80% to 120% of the nominal concentration. The EC50(24h) of the control substance potassium dichromate was 0,68 mg/I. Based on the nominal concentrations of the test substance the 48-h EC50 was determined to be > 100 mg/L. The test item is considered to be not toxic to aquatic invertebrates as no aquatic toxicity was observed at 100 mg/L within range of water solubility.
