Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

- Endpoint:
- flammable solids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- 2017-03-01
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- not specified
- Other quality assurance:
- ISO/IEC 17025 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories)
- Key result
- Test procedure:
- burning rate test: preliminary screening test
- Remarks:
- Measurement of ignition or the propagation time for 200 mm distance (if longer than 4 min the test item is considered not flammable according to guideline
- Moisture (wt %):
- 0.3
- Remarks on result:
- substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period
- Interpretation of results:
- not classified based on GHS criteria
- Conclusions:
- In a preliminary test the test item alpha methyl glucoside could not be ignited after application of a flame to one end of the pile. The test item forms a clear colourless molten mass. An ignition of the molten mass substance was not detected.
- Executive summary:
In a preliminary test according to EC method A.10., alpha methyl glucoside proved to be not highly flammable.
According to Regulation EC No 1272/2008 (CLP) and the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) alpha methyl glucoside does not need to be classified as a flammable solid.
Reference
In this preliminary test the test item was loosely filled into the metal form (mould). The plate was placed on top of the mould, the apparatus was inverted and the mould was removed.
The pile was placed crossways to the air stream in the fume cupboard. Around the testing device a wind protection shield was positioned. Then the attempt was made to ignite the pile at one end. The flame for the ignition was a natural gas burner flame with a diameter of 5 mm.
About 30 g of the test item were used to form the test pile (excess substance included). After the flame application to one end of the pile forming of a clear colourless molten mass was visible. An ignition of the molten mass substance was not detected.
Description of key information
