Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Testing is waived as direct or indirect exposure of aquatic organisms to the registered substance is very limited due to the instability of the substance in water.

Tetrakis(2 -butoxyethyl) orthosilicate hydrolyses rapidly (t1/2= 4 h at pH 7 and 25°C). The hydrolysis products are monosilicic acid and 2 -butoxyethanol. 2 -Butoxyethanol is expected to biodegrade quickly. Monosilicic acid exists only in dilute aqueous solutions and readily condenses at concentrations above approximately 100 - 150 mg/l as SiO2 to give a dynamic equilibrium between monomer, oligomers and insoluble polysilicic acid. These are naturally-occurring inorganic substances and will enter the natural biogeochemical cycle for silicon ( PFA, 2015ao).
