Description of key information

Two good quality studies were available for two fish species. The lowest NOEC was observed for Oreochromis mossambicus: 1951.9 µg total In/L (single measured value). The NOEC for Pimephales promelas was 25000 µg total In/L. The discrepancy between the two studies is that a high loading of In (i.e. >15 mg In/L) results in a pH-shift. The study performed by Aecom (2012a) buffered the pH whereas Lin and Hwang did not report or buffer pH. This could lead to a pH drop which could contribute at the lower NOEC observed in the Lin and Hwang (1998) study compared to the Aecom study (2012a).
