Executive summary:

In the Klimisch 1 GLP-study Smeykal (2017) determined the explosive properties of 2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-nonyl phenol according to UN Test O.2 and EU A.21.. Nitric acid (65%) was used as reference material. The test was performed with powdered cellulose in a 1:1 mixture cellulose: (test material or reference material). The test was performed with 5 replicates. The pressure increase from 690 to 2070 kPa took 22.61 s for the test material and 2.87 s for the reference material. According to the outcome of this test 2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-nonylphenol has no oxidizing properties.

The information is considered relevant and reliable for the risk assessment.

Justification for classification or non-classification

2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-nonylphenol has no oxidizing properties based on the UN Test O.2 and EU A.21. since the pressure increase of the test material was significantly slower than the one of the reference material (nitric acid, 65%).
