Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

According “ANNEX VII - STANDARD INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBSTANCES MANUFACTURED OR IMPORTED IN QUANTITIES OF ONE TONNE OR MORE” the study does not need to be conducted if the substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials, on the basis of the chemical structure.
This product no has oxidizing properties.
An oxidizing substance is one that, while in itself not necessarily combustible, may cause or contribute to the combustion of other material. Oxidising substances generally act by yielding oxygen; however, those that release active halogens can also react as oxidants. (Ref. 1)
Due to the absence of chemical groups associated with oxidizing properties or other structural alerts this substance is not considered to exhibit oxidizing properties.

Therefore testing for oxidizing properties does not need to be performed.

Oxidizing Properties

Justification For data Waiving (ECHA TGD ref 7.1.13)

From the compositional description and the structural formula given, it can be concluded that this substance CAS 2 .: 28348-53-0,EC no.: 248-983-7 does not exhibit oxidizing properties (will not cause or contribute to the combustion of other materials by virtue of its own inherent oxidation or reduction potential). There are no functional groups or other structural alerts present that would indicate that this substance would promote oxidation and thus should not be classified as dangerous according to the criteria for evaluating oxidizing properties. Furthermore, this is confirmed by long term handling experience.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the hazard assessment of sodium cumenesulphonate in section 2.1 and 2.2 in IUCLID 6, available data for the substance and according to the criteria described in Directive 67/548/EEC and in the Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP Regulation):

Directive 67/548

E;R2 Risk of explosion by shock, friction, fire or other sources of ignition

E;R3 Extreme risk of explosion by shock, friction, fire or other source of ignition

O; R7 May cause fire

O; R8 Contact with combustible material may cause fire

O; R9 Explosive when mixed with combustible material

F+; R12 Extremely flammable

F; R11 Highly flammable

F; R15 Contact with water liberates extremely flammable gas

F; R17 Spontaneously flammable in air

R10 Flammable

CLP Regulation

H242 Org. Perox. CD Heating may cause a fire

H242 Org. Perox. EF Heating may cause a fire

Gas: H270 Ox. Gas 1: May cause or intensify fire; oxidiser

Liquid: H271 Ox. Liq 1 May cause fire or explosion; strong oxidiser

Solid: H271 Ox. Sol 1 May cause fire or explosion; strong oxidiser

H272: May intensify fire; oxidiser

Gas: H220 Flam. Gas 1: extremely flammable gas

It is concluded that none of the above phrase has not to be assigned to sodium cumenesulphonate and   does not meet the criteria to be classified for oxidising properties.
