Description of key information

2-amino-6-chloro-4-nitrophenol sample does not have explosive properties as shown by thermal and mechanical (shock and friction) sensitivity tests.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

The determination of the explosive properties of 2-amino-6-chloro-4-nitrophenol was performed in accordance with EU method A. 14: "Explosive properties" and the GLP.

Test material was exposed to thermal and mechanical (shock and friction) sensitivity tests.

In thermal sensitivity test (effect of flame) none of the six tests gave rise to explosion or breaking of steel tube containing 9 cm3of test material.

During mechanical sensitivity tests (effect of the shock), the sample did not explode or broke down until a 50 J impact energy. In six mechanical sensitivity tests(effect of the friction) the test sample did not explode with 360 N energy load applied.

From the results of the tests above, the test sample did not have explosive properties as shown by thermal and mechanical (shock and friction) sensitivity tests performed.

The test sample is considered as not explosive according to CLP criteria.
