The substance is a chromium complex dye. The substance is not expected to be ready biodegradable because of its chemical structure and its specific function. Commonly, dyes undergo a primary transformation, i.e. discolouration due to the interrupting of conjugation. Nevertheless, the degradation process involves more steps and take more time.

The biodegradability potential of the Acid Blue 193 was assayed in a study, conducted according to the OECD Guideline 301E.

At the end of the exposure period, the test article resulted to be not degraded under the test conditions; on the contrary, the standard compound, aniline, was degraded within 14 days to 98.5 %.

Although, it was not possible to retreive the detailed composition of the tested substance, the tests results can be considered as reliable. On the basis of the manufacture process, the organic composition of the substance is expected to be not so far different from those currently in use. In general, the main difference in formulation is due to a different content of water and/or inorganic salts, relevant from the industrial applications point of view.
