Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The water solubility of Hydroxycitronellal has been estimated using the EPISuite Wskowwin v1.42 model using the measured log Kow value of 1.3. The predicted water solubility at 25°C is 15 g/L. The latter is in fairly close agreement with the experimental value of 35g/L at 20°C presented in the REACH dossier of 7-hydroxycitronellal. Since all values indicate high water solubility (i.e. > 1000 mg/L), the predicted value of 15g/L which entails no cost to the lead registrant is considered adequate for the purpose of estimating environmental exposure.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
15 g/L
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

For complex mixtures (e.g. UVCBs) the information obtained from water solubility testing is not necessarily relevant or of practical use for subsequent assessments. In the case of the registered substance, the situation is further complicated by the fact that the reaction products are unstable in solution. Therefore a test on the substance as such has not been conducted and instead water solubility information has been gathered for the two assessment entities being used for the environmental exposure and environmental risk.
