Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

In contact with the flame of the gas burner the test material glowed and turned into a dark blue black residue. After removal of the ignition source, no propagation of combustion of the test item was observed.

Interpretation of results:
other: Not highly flammable in accordance with EU criteria
Conclusions:
Under the conditions of this study, the test material is considered ‘not highly flammable’.
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test material was investigated in accordance with the standardised guidelines UN Test N.1 and EU Method A.10, under GLP conditions.

In contact with the flame of the gas burner the test material glowed and turned into a dark blue black residue. After removal of the ignition source, no propagation of combustion of the test material along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed.

Under the conditions of this study, the test material is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Description of key information

Flammability (solids or gases)

Under the conditions of this study, the test material is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Flammability (contact with water and pyrophoricity)

In accordance with Section 1 of Annex XI of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH), it is considered justified to omit the Flammability (Contact with Water) and Pyrophoric Properties of Solids and Liquids studies, also required under section 7.10 of Annex VII, on the basis that the testing does not appear to be scientifically necessary.  The chemical structure of the test material contains no groups which would indicate potential reactivity with water or pyrophoric properties.

Additional information

Flammability (solids or gases)

The flammability of the test material was investigated in accordance with the standardised guidelines UN Test N.1 and EU Method A.10, under GLP conditions. The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to flammability.
