Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Study period:
9 to 12 November 2015
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.4 (Test method for self-heating substances)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Hess, Ministerium für Umwelt, Energie, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz, Wiesbaden, Germany
Test procedure:
100 mm sample cube at 140°C
Max. temp. reached:
139
Induction time (h):
12
Result:
negative outcome (no effect observed)

After the measurement the mesh wire basket contained approximately 0.3 wt. % less test item than at the start.

Negative result was obtained in the test using a 10 cm sample cube at 140 °C the test item has not to be classified in division 4.2 (self-heating substances).

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
other:
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
16 July 2015
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Hess, Ministerium für Umwelt, Energie, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz, Wiesbaden, Germany
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The test item, pure substance is not a highly flammable solid in the sense of EU Method A. 10.

The test item could not be ignited with a flame in the preliminary test. The test item melted.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
17 Nov 2015
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:

Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The test item, technical substance is not a highly flammable solid in the sense of EU Method A. 10.

The test item was tested without pre-treatment and it could not be ignited with a flame. The test item melted.

Description of key information

No ignition in the preliminary burning rate test (EU Method A.10)

Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.

The substance does not show self-heating behaviour (UN Test N.4)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

No ignition in a test according EU Method A.10.

Based on chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

The substance does not show self-heating behaviour according to UN Test N.4)
