Additional information

For Tetrasodium N,N-bis(carboxylatomethyl)-L-glutamic acid a series of screening tests on biodegradation is reported, showing that the test substance in readily biodegradable under aerobic conditions. GLDA-Na4 is also anaerobically biodegradable as showen by an anaerobic screening test OECD TG311.

A simulation test on the biodegradation of N, N-bis(carboxylatomethyl) -L-glutamic acid in an activated sludge plant treating domestic waste water showed >95% removal by biodegradation after a period of 14 days.

A biodegradability test in seawater (OECD 306) was performed with L-Glutamic acid diacetic acid tetra sodium salt showing 83% biodegradation at day 60. Therefore L-Glutamic acid diacetic acid tetra sodium salt should be classified as inherently biodegradable in seawater.

Based on the ready biodegradability of the substance, further simulation tests in surface water, sediment and soil are not required in accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX.
