Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

In an acute inhalation toxicity study 10 male and female Wistar rats per group were exposed to 4 -Chlorobenzaldehyde for 3 or 7 hours at concentrations of 321 mg/m³ or 250 mg/m³, respectively. Animals then were observed over a period of 14 days.

No mortality was seen. Apart from irritation of the mucose membranes of the eye and the nose and unspecific behavioural disorder of the animals no findings were noted at necropsy. The weight gain of the 14-day observation period was normal and physiological.

The following LC 50 values were determined:

LC 50 7 h-Exposure: > 250 mg/m³
