L-histidine is a naturally occuring essential amino acid that must be taken up through the diet. Even though human adults can obtain limited amounts of histidine through the breakdown of carnosine, infants and children cannot which makes them especially vulnerable to histidine-deficiencies. Since a histidine-deficient diet can cause clinical and metabolic signs in adults, it is easy to predict that this will also happen in children and infants during development as they are completely dependent upon the intake of this amino acid via the diet. Moreover, the toxicity to reproduction can be excluded because it is a normal constituent in living cells. It is ingested daily in significant amounts and a basic metabolite and building block of all living organisms. Aditionally, L-histidine was shown not be a carcinogen (Ikezaki, 1996).

In this regard it can be stated that L-histidine is a necessity in developmental stages and not considered to have reproduction toxicity properties and the study does not need to be conducted.
