Zinc bis dimethyldithiocarbamate is not readily biodegradable (7.7% biodegradation in 28d). Nevertheless rapid degradation in water/sediment and soil systems have been reported, with half-lives below 2 days under aerobic conditions. Based on the available information the substance is not expected to persist in the environment.

Furthermore zinc bis dimethyldithiocarbamate is susceptile to photolysis in air (half-life = 2.8 hours), water and soil (half-lives < 10 hours) and once released into the water, hydrolysis plays an important role in the degradation of this substance, especially under acidic and neutral conditions (half-lives of 10.4 minutes and 17.7 hours respectively). Based on the estimated Henry’s Law constant (0.0057 Pa m3/mol), this substance will not evaporate from the water surface.

The substance shows low to moderate potential for adsorption to solid particles (log Koc of 2.5 to 4.0).

In view of the estimated octanol-water partition coefficient (1.65), the bioaccumulation potential of this substance in biota is assumed to be low.
