Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Conducting a study on water solubility of tetrachlorophthalic anhydride is technically not feasible as the substance hydrolysis in water forming tetrachlorophthalic acid. Tetrachlorophthalic acid has a water solubility of 3600 mg/L at 20°C and is therefore regarded as soluble in water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
3 600 mg/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The available data on water solubility of tetrachlorophthalic anhydride are in a wide range: 0.8 mg/L - 4000 mg/L. No information on method used and test conditions, respectively are given. It is noted that it is not clear for which form of the substance (parent compound or hydrolysis product) the water solubility value have been reported.

Due to the hydrolytic property of the substance the results cannot be validated and are therefore not taken into account for further assessment. For the hydrolysis product tetraphthalic acid a reliable result for water solubility is available.
