Description of key information

The substance is a low melting point solid with a determined melting temperature of 30 to 47 °C (303 to 320 K). Consequently, a flash point determination was performed to fulfil the requirement for information on flammability of the substance. The test material was found to have a flash point of 118 ± 2 °C and, based on experience in use, the substance is not pyrophoric and does not emit flammable gases in contact with water.

not classified

Additional information

According to ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance (Version 5.0; December 2016), the primary value for ease of ignition in liquids is the flash point. The substance has been shown to have a flashpoint of 118 ± 2 °C using the closed cup method and is non-flammable when compared to CLP classification criteria. Since the test material does not ignite in contact with air or water, and the tested sample did not contain impurities with a lower boiling point than the main component, no further investigation of flammability is required.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Flammability of the low melting point test material has been investigated via determination of flashpoint (118 ± 2 °C using the closed cup procedure). Therefore, in accordance with CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance is not classified as flammable.
