Description of key information

Appearance:

On the basis of physical observation test chemical was observed to be a violet solid powder.

Melting point:

Mean melting temperature range of test chemical was observed to be 165.3- 170.8 °C at 964.2 hPa.

Boiling Point:

The mean boiling point was determined to be 243.3°C at 964.3 hPa.

Density:

The mean density of test chemical was determined to be 0.6331gm/cm3 at 20°C and 964.25 hPa.

Particle size distribution:

The particle size distribution of test chemical was determined to be in the range of 150 micron to 53 micron

Vapour pressure:

The estimated vapour pressure of test chemical at 25 deg C was 4.68E-10 Pa.

Partition coefficient

The partition coefficient (n-octanol/water) of test chemical was determined as per the HPLC method (OECD Guideline-117). The Log Pow value was determined to be 6.093±0.005 at 25°C.

Water solubility:

The study was conducted to determine the solubility of test chemical in ultra-pure water, according to the OECD guideline 105 (Adopted by the Council on 27th July 1995) and OECD 101(Adopted: 12 May 1981) and was determined  to be 0.64 mg/L at 25 ± 2°C.

Surface tension:

the study does not need to be conducted because surface activity is not a desired property of the material

the study does not need to be conducted because water solubility is below 1 mg/L at 20°C

Flash point:

The study does not need to be conducted because the flash point is only relevant to liquids and low melting point solids

Auto flammability:

Test chemical did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that test chemical is not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

Test chemical does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that test chemical is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus test chemical was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.

Explosiveness:

The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.

Oxidizing properties:

The study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance contains oxygen or halogen atoms which are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.

A study was performed to determine the melting point of test chemical, in atmospheric pressure. The study was conducted in accordance with OECD 102 Guideline for testing of chemicals, for Melting Point Adopted by Council on 27th July1995. Mean melting temperature range of test chemical was observed to be 165.3- 170.8 °C at 964.2 hPa.

Boiling Point:

A study was performed to determine the boiling point of test chemical at atmospheric pressure.

The study was conducted in accordance with OECD 103, Guideline for testing of chemicals, for Boiling Point Adopted by Council on 27th July 1995.

The mean boiling point was determined to be 243.3°C at 964.3 hPa.

Density:

A study was performed to determine the density of test chemical in respective atmospheric pressure and temperature conditions. The study was conducted in accordance with OECD guideline for the Testing of Chemicals no. 109; ASTM 854-02: Standard Test Methods for Specific Gravity of Soil Solids by Water Pycnometer The mean density of test chemical was determined to be 0.6331gm/cm3 at 20°C and 964.25 hPa.

Particle size distribution:

A study was performed to determine the particle size distribution of test chemical within range of 150 µ to 10 µ. The study was conducted in accordance with OECD guideline 110 and according to Adapted from IS: 2720 (Part 4)1985 (Reaffirmed 2006); Indian Standard METHODS OF TEST FOR SOILS, PART 4 GRAIN SIZE ANALYSES. The particle size distribution was determined to be in the range of 150 micron to 53 micron

based on data available from source the vapour pressure of test chemical at 25 deg C was estimated to be 4.68E-10 Pa.

Partition coefficient

The Partition Coefficient n-octanol/water (Pow) of test chemical was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography (RP-HPLC) method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 Adopted: 13 April 2004 for testing of chemicals.

The analysis was performed at constant recommended conditions such as temperature 25°C (Acetonitrile: water) ratio 75:25 at the flow rate of 1 mL/min at 210 nm. Generalized reference substances were selected and selected reference substances and test chemical were prepared in acetonitrile. Both were analyzed on HPLC considering the similar conditions.

After analyzing on above conditions calibration curve of selected reference substances was prepared to obtain log Powvalue.

The reference substances were Benzene, Diphenylamine, Naphthalene, Ethyl benzene, Biphenyl, Phenanthrene, Butylbenzene, Triphenylamine and DDT having Powvalue ranging from 2.41 to 6.10.

TheLog Powvalue was determined to be6.093±0.005 at 25°C , inferring the test chemical to be hydrophobic in nature .

 

 

Water solubility:

The study was conducted to determine the solubility of test chemical in ultra-pure water, according to the OECD guideline 105 (Adopted by the Council on 27th July 1995) and OECD 101(Adopted: 12 May 1981). Test was conducted at 25±2 °C in two stages; preliminary testfor 96 h, followed by confirmatory test for 24 h, 48 h and 72 h in replicates. The final water solubility value was calculated based on average of the individual values obtained after 24 h, 48 h and 72 h. The difference between the average values in three vessels was not observed more than 15%. The water solubility value was determined to be0.64 mg/L at 25 ± 2°C.
