Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Principle of test:
Six normal healthy albino rabbits were used for this study. Each animal had 0.05g of the test material, as received, instilled into the conjunctival sac of the right eye. The untreated left eye of each animal served as a control for that animal. The treated and untreated eyes were 48, and 72 hours post instillation.

Test animals / tissue source

Species:
rabbit
Strain:
other: Albino
Details on test animals or tissues and environmental conditions:
Six normal healthy albino rabbits were used for this study.
The albino rabbits used in this study were obtained from Gingrich Animal Supply, Fredericksburg, PA., U.S.D.A. License #23-CD. The animals were housed individually and acclimated to laboratory conditions for at least 5 days prior to being placed on test.
During the acclimation and test period each animal was housed in an individual stainless steel cage with elevated mesh flooring. Each animal was numbered in its ear and each cage was identified with its corresponding cage card.
The animals were provided with W. F. Fishers' Complete Rabbit Pellets ad libitum and all cages were equipped with automatic watering devices.

Test system

Vehicle:
unchanged (no vehicle)
Controls:
yes, concurrent no treatment
Amount / concentration applied:
0.05g of the test material, as received, instilled into the conjunctival sac of the right eye. The untreated left eye of each animal served as a control for that animal. The treated and untreated eyes were 48, and 72 hours post instillation.
Duration of treatment / exposure:
24 h
Observation period (in vivo):
The treated and untreated eyes were examined and graded after 24, 48, and 72 hours post instillation
