Acute toxicity tests for fish, daphnids, and aquatic algae were conducted for Dowfax 2A1. The key parameters for acute toxicity tests with fish, daphnids, and algae were 6.2 mg/L (96 -hour LC50 values for rainbow trout), 1.64 mg/L (48 -hour EC50 value for D. magna), and > 100 mg/L (3-week EC50 for S. capricornutum based on cell counts). Furthermore, chronic toxicity values were available for the freshwater green algae, S. capricornutum, and the freshwater invertebrate Ceriodaphnia dubia. The NOEC value for the green algae was 100 mg/L Dowfax 2A1 based on a 3 week exposure, and the NOEC (based on survival) for C. dubia was 0.65 mg/L Dowfax 2EP (a.k.a Dowfax 2A1) based on a 7-day exposure. Of these toxicity values, the NOEC of 0.65 mg/L for the invertebrate,C. dubia, was the lowest value reported, and this data point was used in the development of the PNECaqua.

There were activated sludge respiration inhibition studies for analogous structures to Dowfax 2A1. From these studies, the EC50 for Dowfax 2A1 in the activated sludge respiration inhibition test was conservatively estimated to be 100 mg/L, and this value was used to set the PNECSTP value for Dowfax 2A1.
