3-Methylpyridine is not an acute short-term aquatic hazard. The key values for the chemical category include a 96 hr LC50 for fish of 560 mg/L, a 48-hour EC50 for crustacea of 320 mg/L and a 72 hr EC50 for algae or aquatic plants of 320 mg/L; each of these values is higher than the threshold of 1 mg/L for a short-term acute aquatic hazard. 3-Methylpyridine does not qualify as an acute aquatic toxicant. The substance is readily biodegradable and is not bioaccumulative (the log Kow of 1.2 is substantially below the threshold log Kow of 4), and therefore is not a chronic long-term aquatic hazard
