Description of key information

The batch of Quaternium-22 tested in the aquatic toxicity tests was a brown paste with a purity of 1-Propanaminium, 3-(D-gluconoylamino)-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N,N-dimethyl-, chloride > 90% (watercontent <10%). The 48h-EC50 for aquatic invertebrates was beyond the range tested, i.e. exceeded an analytically confirmed nominal concentration of 100 mg/L. The EC50 for growth rate inhibition of freshwater algae (72h-ERC50) was 76 mg/L with a 95% confidence interval ranging from 72 to 80 mg/L. The 72h-NOEC for growth rate inhibition and the 72h-NOEC for yield inhibition were 18 mg/L. Quaternium-22 was not toxic to waste water bacteria (activated sludge) at 1000 mg/L.
