Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

EC10/50 (3 h) > 10000 mg/L for activated sludge microorganisms (OECD 209)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Since no studies on the toxicity to activated sludge microorganisms are available for Fatty acids, C6-18, triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS 91050-88-3), the assessment was based on studies conducted with the category members Fatty acids, C8-10 (even numbered), di-and triesters with propylidynetrimethanol (CAS 11138-60-6) and Fatty acids, C16-18 even numbered and C18-unsatd. Triesters with propylidynetrimethanol (former CAS 57675-44-2) as part of a read across approach. The read across is suitable due to the similar fatty acid chain length of both substances. This is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Grouping of substance and read across approach. Further justification is given within the endpoint summary 6.1 and within the analogue justification in IUCLID section 13.

Both studies were performed according to OECD 209 with domestic activated sludge as inoculum. After an exposure of 3 h no inhibition of respiration was recorded and an EC10/50 was derived to be > 10000 mg/L.

Based on the results from structurally related read-across substances (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5) which are characterized by an equal ecotoxicological profile and a similar structure, it can be concluded that Fatty acids, C6-18, triesters with trimethylolpropane (CAS 91050-88-3) is of low toxicity to activated sludge microorganisms and the inhibition of degradation process in Sewage Treatment Plants .is not anticipated.
