Description of key information

Ytterbium trinitrate is concluded to be not a flammable solid according to UN Test method N.1. From day to day handling of the substance, Ytterbium trinitrate is concluded not to have pyrophoric properties nor to be flammable in contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Pyrophoricity:

In the daily use and handling of Ytterbium trinitrate during which continuous exposure to air can occur, no spontaneous ignition is observed. The absence of structural alerts furthermore confirms that it is highly unlikely that Ytterbium trinitrate has pyrophoric properties.

Flammability in contact with water:

Under conditions where Ytterbium trinitrate is in contact with water no ignition and/or liberation of flammable gases is observed. The absence of structural alerts furthermore confirms that it is highly unlikely that Ytterbium trinitrate is flammable in contact with water.

Flammability:

An experimental study of reliability 1 according to Klimisch, performed in compliance with GLP and according to UN method N.1, was selected as a key study. From this flammability test, Ytterbium trinitrate is concluded to be not a flammable solid. This results in an absence of classification under CLP system.
