First-aid measures

General advice:

Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately. If someone exposed to the product feels unwell, contact a doctor and show this safety data sheet.

Adhere to personal protective measures when giving first aid.

If inhaled:

Remove the casualty into fresh air and keep him calm. Call in a physician immediately and show him the Safety Data Sheet.

In case of skin contact:

In case of contact with skin wash off immediately with polyethylene glycol 400, then with plenty of water. If polyethylene glycol is not available, rinse of with plenty of water. Consult a doctor if skin irritation persists.

In case of eye contact:

Rinse the affected eye immediately with plenty of water at the same time keep the unaffected eye well protected.

If swallowed:

Call in a physician immediately and show him the Safety Data Sheet.

Treat symptomatically.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media:

Water spray, Foam, Dry powder, Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Specific hazards during firefighting:

In case of fires, hazardous combustion gases are formed: Hydrogen fluoride (HF), Carbon monoxide (CO)

Special protective equipment for firefighters:

Impermeable protective clothing (jacket and trousers) with helmet. Use self-contained breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions:

Do not inhale vapours. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Observe the usual precautions for handling chemicals.

Environmental precautions       :

Do not allow entry to drains, water courses or soil.

Methods for cleaning up:

Pick up with liquid binding materials and if necessary fill in containers capable of being locked. Containers in which spilt substance has been collected must be adequately labelled. Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with the regulations. Clean contaminated floors and objects thoroughly, observing environmental regulations.

Handling and storage

Handling:

The product should be handled under strictly controlled conditions as defined in Article 18 (4) REACH. Handle in closed system where ever possible in order to minimize exposure and emissions. Provide good ventilation of working area (local exhaust ventilation if necessary).

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Protection against physical hazard:

The product is combustible and has a low ignition temperature.  Fumes can form an explosive atmosphere with air. Take precautionary measures against buildup of electrostatic charges, e.g earthing during loading and off-loading operations. Keep away from sources of ignition like sparks, open flame and hot surfaces. Observe the general rules of industrial fire protection.

Hygiene:

Do not eat, drink or smoke during work time. Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately and clean thoroughly before using again. Garments that cannot be cleaned must be destroyed (burnt).

Keep away from food and drink. Clean hands and face during work intervals and after work

Avoid contact of the substance.

Storage:

Keep only in the original container.  Keep container tightly closed and dry in a cool, well-ventilated

place. Do not store or transport together with foodstuffs. German Storage Class 10, Combustible liquids.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Eye protection :

Depending on the risk, wear sufficient eye protection (safety glasses with side protection or goggles, and if necessary, face shield.)

Hand protection:

Choose gloves to protect hands against chemicals depending on the concentration and quantity of the hazardous substance and specific to place of work. The selected protective gloves have to satisfy the specifications of EU Directive 89/686/EEC and the standard EN 374 derived from it.

Take note of the information given by the producer concerning permeability and break through times, and of special workplace conditions (mechanical strain, duration of contact).

Gloves must be inspected prior to use. Gloves should be discarded and replaced if there is any indication of degradation or chemical breakthrough. Gloves must be rinsed thoroughly after use.

Material :

For short-term (< 30 min) exposure (splash protection):

Nitrile rubber gloves 0,45 mm

Butyl rubber gloves 0,5 mm

Viton(R) 0,4 mm

These types of protective gloves are offered by various manufacturers. Please note the manufacturers´ detailed statements, especially about the minimum thickness and the minimum breakthrough time. Consider also the particular working conditions under which the gloves are being used.

Skin and body protection :

Choose body protection in relation to its type, to the concentration and amount of dangerous substances, and to the specific work-place, e.g. apron, boots, protective suit (EN 14605,

EN ISO 13982-1, EN 13034).

Respiratory protection :

Use respiratory protection unless adequate local exhaust ventilation is provided or exposure assessment demonstrates that exposures are within recommended exposure guidelines.

Respiratory protection complying with DIN EN 14387. Multi-purpose filter ABEK or Filter A.

Protective measures :

Do not breathe vapours or spray mist. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity

No dangerous reaction known under conditions of normal use.

Chemical stability

No decomposition if stored and applied as directed.

Conditions to avoid

Heat, flames and sparks.

Incompatible materials

Substance is sensitive to oxidation. Avoid contact with oxidizing agents. Avoid longer lasting air contact.

Hazardous decomposition products

When handled and stored appropriately, no dangerous decomposition products are known

Disposal considerations

Product: Special waste incineration plant, after consultation with operators.

Contaminated packaging: Packaging that cannot be cleaned should be disposed of as product waste.
