Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:

Remarks:
The authors performed a cell multiplication inhibition test to assess if benzotrichloride is hazardous to the protozoa Entosiphon sulcatum. The methodology is explained with great detail and the study is generally well described. Thus we consider this a Klimisch 2e study as the study is well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles and is acceptable for assessment.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
not applicable
Conclusions:
The authors performed a cell multiplication inhibition test to assess if benzotrichloride is hazardous to the protozoa Entosiphon sulcatum. Under these testing conditions the toxicity threshold (i.e. similar to EC5) for Entosiphon sulcatum after 72h of exposure was 56 mg/L (nominal concentration).
Executive summary:

The authors performed a cell multiplication inhibition test to assess if benzotrichloride (CAS n° 98-07-7) is hazardous to the protozoa Entosiphon sulcatum. Under static conditions, Entosiphon sulcatum was exposed to a dilution series of the test substance at 25°C for 72h. Then growth inhibition was assessed using a cell counter comparing the values of the cultures with test substance to a blanc. Under these testing conditions the toxicity threshold (i.e. similar to EC5) for Entosiphon sulcatum was 56 mg/L (nominal concentration).

No data is available on the GLP status and no guideline is followed. However, the methodology used in this study is described with sufficient details and the study itself meets generally accepted scientific principles and is as such acceptable for assessment. Therefore we consider the study reliable with restrictions (klimisch 2e).
