Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

- General advice: Remove from exposure, lie down. In case of an accident or if you feel nausea, seek medical advice immediately (show the label or this safety data sheet, if possible). Reacts violently with water, moisture, alcohols and acids liberating highly flammable gases. Provide adequate ventilation.
- Inhalation: Move to fresh air. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed. Consult a physician.
- Skin contact: Before washing use a dry brush to remove dust from skin. Take off all contaminated clothing immediately. Wash off immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove and wash contaminated clothing and gloves, including the inside, before re-use.
- Eye contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician if symptoms occur.
- Ingestion: Rinse mouth. Prevent vomiting if possible. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Call a physician immediately. Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.

Fire-fighting measures

- Extinguishing media:
Dry sand, Limestone powder, Dry sodium chloride, Dry sodium carbonate

- Unsuitable extinguishing media: Halons, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Water, Foam

- Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: Reacts violently with water, moisture, alcohols and acids liberating highly flammable gases. Risk of explosion. Burning produces irritant fumes.

- Advice for firefighters: In the case of respirable dust and/or fumes, use self-contained breathing apparatus and dust impervious protective suit. Boots . Rubber or plastic gloves

- Specific methods: Keep people away from and upwind of the fire.

Accidental release measures

- Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Ensure adequate ventilation. Remove all sources of ignition. Use personal protective equipment. Avoid dust formation. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. May cause fire. Normal measures for preventive fire protection.

- Environmental precautions: Should not be released into the environment. Do not let product enter drains. Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Cover with dry sodium carbonate, sand etc.

- Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up: Small amounts: Take up mechanically and collect into suitable containers for disposal. Clean thoroughly. Do not flush with water. Ensure adequate ventilation.

Handling and storage

- Precautions for safe handling: Avoid exposure - obtain special instructions before use. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe vapours/dust. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Prevent the static electricity of handling devices by earthing. Use closed feeding head if possible.

- Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities: Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition. Keep under nitrogen. In tanks, containers and pipelines oxygen concentration of nitrogen must be < 3%. Purge open drums with nitrogen before resealing.

- Materials to avoid: Aluminium, Strong oxidizing agents, Acids, Alcohols, Halogenated hydrocarbon, Water

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure controls

- Appropriate engineering controls:
Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Electrical equipment should be protected to the appropriate standard. Avoid dust formation during handling. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location. Avoid exposure - obtain special instructions before use. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Use a protective suit as impermeable as possible.

- Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment:
*Hand protection:
Glove material: butyl-rubber, Break through time: > 480 min
Glove material: Natural Rubber, Break through time: > 480 min
Glove material: Viton (R), Break through time: > 480 min
Gloves should be removed and replaced immediately if there is any indication of degradation or chemical breakthrough.
Glove material: Chloroprene, Break through time: > 480 min
Glove material: Nitrile rubber, Break through time: > 480 min

*Eye protection: Tightly fitting safety goggles or face-shield.
*Skin and body protection:
Flame retardant antistatic protective clothing
Rubber or plastic boots
Remove and wash contaminated clothing before re-use.

*Respiratory protection: In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Dust safety masks are recommended when the dust concentration is more than 10 mg/m³.

- Environmental exposure controls: Should not be released into the environment.

Stability and reactivity

Strong exothermic reaction with acids. Contact with water liberates extremely flammable gases. Avoid ignition sources, contact with air, humidity, electrostatic charges and direct sunlight.

Avoid contact with Water, alcohols, oxidising agents, acids, halogenated hydrocarbons.

Disposal considerations

Follow local authority regulations, incinerate at suitable incineration facility.

Uncleaned containers should be disposed of in the same manner as the contents.
