Sodium triacetoxyborohydride decomposes upon contact with water with a half-life of 38-85 seconds by liberating hydrogen and boric acid as products. Thus, the environmental fate of Sodium triacetoxyborohydride is driven boric acid. The available data on short-term and long-term aquatic toxicity of Sodium triacetoxyborohydride and boric acid resulted in the lowest NOEC of LC50 of 6.6 mg/L Boron (B) for zebrafish. When adjusted for the mole fraction of Boron/Sodium triacetoxyborohydride the value is 129.4 mg/L.
