Endpoint:
short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
weight of evidence
Reliability:
4 (not assignable)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
documentation insufficient for assessment
Remarks:
currently accepted version of guideline requires a test duration of 48 h instead of 24 h
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 202 (Daphnia sp. Acute Immobilisation Test)
Version / remarks:
1984
GLP compliance:
no
Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Test type:
not specified
Water media type:
freshwater
Limit test:
no
Total exposure duration:
24 h
Duration:
24 h
Dose descriptor:
EC100
Effect conc.:
100 mg/L
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mobility
Duration:
24 h
Dose descriptor:
EC0
Effect conc.:
31.6 mg/L
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mobility
Duration:
24 h
Dose descriptor:
EC50
Effect conc.:
ca. 56.2 mg/L
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mobility
Duration:
24 h
Dose descriptor:
EC50
Effect conc.:
ca. 37.1 mg/L
Conc. based on:
act. ingr.
Basis for effect:
mobility
Validity criteria fulfilled:
not specified
Conclusions:
Geometric mean between EC0 and EC100 leads to EC50 = 56.2 mg/l after 24-hour on daphnia magna. It corresponds to 37.1 mg/l of active ingredient.
Executive summary:

Method

Daphnia magna, exposed for 24 hours and observed for immobilisation according to OECD guideline 202 (1984).

Results

EC0 = 31.6 mg/l and EC100 = 100 mg/l. Geometric mean gives EC50 = 56.2 mg/l, equivalent to 37.1 mg/l of active ingredient.

Description of key information

EC50 (24h) = 37.1 mg/l of active ingredient on daphnia magna.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Fresh water invertebrates

Fresh water invertebrates

Additional information

Acute toxicity to daphnia magna was evaluated upon a 24-hour exposure, based on OECD guideline 202 (1984). Current version of this guideline (2004) would require a 48-hour exposure. However, this result gave a qualitative indication of the toxicity of the test substance.
