Additional information

There is no study available investigating the toxicity of Potassium (Z)-N-methyl-N-(1-oxo-9-octadecenyl) aminoacetate (CAS 76622-74-7) to algae. Therefore, read-across was conducted to the related source substance (Z)-N-methyl-N-(1-oxo-9-octadecenyl)glycine (CAS 110-25-8) in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5. Based on the high degree of similarity between the structural and physico-chemical properties of the target and source substance, the source substance is considered a suitable representative for the evaluation of the aquatic toxicity of the target substance to algae. The read-across approach is justified in detail within the analogue justification in IUCLID section 13.

Both available studies were conducted according to the OECD guideline 201.

In the first study, D. subspicatus was exposed to nominal test item concentrations of 0.22, 0.46, 1.0, 2.2, 4.6, 10, 22, 46 mg/L for 72 h under static conditions. Initial test item concentrations were analytically verified by HPLC-MS. The test solutions of the 22 and 46 mg/L treatments were clouded and did not allow photometric measurements of algae concentrations. The reported ErC50 (72 h) is 6.3 mg/L and the NOErC (72 h) is 0.91 mg/L and (measured initial concentration).

In the second study, D. subspicatus was exposed to nominal test item concentrations of 0.16, 0.31, 0.63, 1.25, 2.50, 5.0, 10.0, 20.0 mg/L for 72 h under static conditions. No analytical verification of the test item concentrations was performed. After 72 h exposure, an EbC50 of 5.1 mg/L (nominal) was obtained.

Based on the available results from the structurally related source substance (in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5), which is characterized by a similar ecotoxicological profile and comparable structure, the ErC50 (72 h) of 6.3 mg/L and NOErC (72 h) of 0.91 mg/L (measured, initial) are retained as effect concentrations for the toxicity of the target substance Potassium (Z)-N-methyl-N-(1-oxo-9-octadecenyl) aminoacetate (CAS 76622-74-7) to freshwater microalgae.
