There is no ecotoxicological data available for Potassium (Z)-N-methyl-N-(1-oxo-9-octadecenyl) aminoacetate (CAS 76622-74-7). Therefore, read-across to the two structurally related substances Sodium N-methyl-N-(1-oxo-9-octadecenyl)aminoacetate (CAS 3624-77-9) and (Z)-N-methyl-N-(1-oxo-9-octadecenyl)glycine (CAS 110-25-8) was conducted in order to fulfil the standard information requirements in compliance with Annex XI, 1.5, of Regulation (EC) N° 1907/2006. Based on the high degree of similarity between the structural and physico-chemical properties of the target and source substances, the source substances are considered suitable representatives for the assessment of the aquatic toxicity of the target substance. A detailed analogue approach justification is provided in the technical dossier (see IUCLID Section 13).

All experimental studies available for the suitable source substances were performed according to internationally accepted guidelines. They cover all three trophic levels of an aquatic ecosystem. Toxicity was observed below 1 mg/L, which is within the water solubility (> 296 g/L at 20°C) of the target substance.

The short-term toxicity to fish was determined in studies according to OECD guideline 203 and GLP for the source substances Sodium N-methyl-N-(1-oxo-9-octadecenyl)aminoacetate (CAS 3624-77-9) and (Z)-N-methyl-N-(1-oxo-9-octadecenyl)glycine (CAS 110-25-8). The lowest reported effect concentration isan LC50 (96 h) of 0.37 mg/L (nominal).The short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates was assessed according to OECD guideline 202 or EU method C.2 and GLP for the same two source substances. The lowest reported effect concentration is an EC50 (48 h) of 0.43 mg/L (measured, geometric mean).

The toxicity to aquatic algae was tested according to OECD guideline 201 and GLP for the source substance (Z)-N-methyl-N-(1-oxo-9-octadecenyl)glycine (CAS 110-25-8) and resulted in an ErC50 (72 h) of 6.3 mg/L (measured, initial) and a NOErC (72 h) of 0.91 mg/L (measured, initial).

Two studies determined the toxicity to microorganisms according to OECD 209 for the source substance(Z)-N-methyl-N-(1-oxo-9-octadecenyl)glycine (CAS 110-25-8).The EC50 value (3 h) for the toxicity to aquatic microorganisms was 1300 mg/L.

Based on the structural and physico-chemical similarity between the target and source substances, the target substance is expected to exhibit a similar ecotoxicological profile as the source substances.

All the reliable data compiled in the data matrix of the analogue justification in IUCLID section 13 supports the read-across approach by showing a consistent pattern of results.
