Description of key information

Physico-chemical properties of the registered substance were determined from experimental testing or from QSAR approach and supporting study on the constituents of the substance. Some endpointswere waived, based on chemical structure of constituents or experience in handling and use of the substance.

The substance is a dark brown liquid at ambient temperature,with high volatility. It is slightly less dense than water and the water solubility depends on the loading rate of the substance (from slightly to moderately soluble with a loading rate from 303 to 1003 mg/L).

The substance is considered to have surface active potential.

It has potential for bioaccumulation and is classified as a flammable liquid. However, it is not classified as hazardous with regard to explosivity, self-heating and oxidising properties, self-reactive substance and organic peroxide based on CLP criteria.

Signs, which may be the proof of decomposition of the substance were observed during the Siwoloboff and dynamic tests) but the tests were stopped at about 165 -174°C for safety reasons (bumping) . Only sign of evaporation was observed using the DSC method under inert gas.

The density of the test item was determined to be 0.9956 ± 0.0010 g/cm3 at 20.0 ± 0.4 °C.

Therefore the substance has potential for bioaccumulation.

Water solubility

The water solubility of the test item was measured between 80.8 and 232.2 g/L using a loading rate of 303 - 1003 mg/L at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C (pH 4.58 - 5.26; 3 days of equilibrium).

The substance is considered as slightly to moderately soluble in water pending on the lodaing rate.

Surface tension 

(OECD 115/EU A5, plate method)

The surface tension of an aqueous solution of the test item (90% of the saturation solubility) was determined to be 55.34 mN/m at 19.7°C.

As the result is below the threshold value of 60mN/m, the substance is considered to have surface active potential under the experimental conditions based on EYA5 criteria. However since the structures of the constituents of the substance are not characteristic of true surfactants and considering that it is not the intended use of the substance (i.e. not a desired property), this conclusion should be taken with caution.
