Members of the Montan waxes category were tested at nominal concentrations far above their water solubility. No biologically relevant effects were observed in all test systems at nominal concentrations up to the limit concentrations recommended by the respective OECD guidelines:

Short-term toxicity fish (Montan waxes, Types CaV 102, NaV 101, WE 4, and E): LC50 > 100 mg/L nominal concentrations (used to prepare water accommodated fractions)

Short-term toxicity daphnia (Montan waxes, Types CaV 102, NaV 101, WE 4, and E): EC50 > 100 mg/L nominal concentrations (used to prepare water accommodated fractions)

Algae toxicity (Montan waxes, Types KPS, WM 31, E, O, NaV 101, S and OP): EC10 (72 h, growth rate) / NOEC (72 h, growth rate) ≥100 mg/L nominal concentrations (used to prepare water accommodated fractions)

Activated sludge respiration inhibition (Montan waxes, Types NaV 101, WE 40, S, E and OP): NOEC ≥ 1000 mg/L

Long-term reproduction daphnia (Montan waxes, types S and WE 40): No biologically relevant effects observed with nominal concentrations up to 100 mg/L (used to prepare water accommodated fractions).

Short-term toxicity earthworm (Montan waxes, type OP): NOEC (14 d) ≥ 1000 mg/kg soil dw

Reproduction test earthworm (Montan waxes, types WM 31 and OP): NOEC (56 d) ≥ 1000 mg/kg soil dw

Consequently, no valid LOEC, NOEC, or ECx - value can be calculated. Since this data is a prerequisite to estimate a PNEC it is not possible to derive this value.

Conclusion on classification
