Description of key information

The test substance was absorpted through the skin of rabbits. The pure test substance led to the death of the rabbits within 24 h.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Dermal absorption:

Rabbits were exposed to the test substance on the back skin (VII/97-98, 1958). An application of 200 mm3/kg bw (= 172 mg/kg bw) of the pure test substance led to the deaths of the animals within 24 hours. Application of the same amount of 40 % test substance in water (ca. 80 mm3/kg bw = 69 mg/kg bw) did not cause death in the animals, only indisposition at the beginning and animals recovered within 24 h after treatment. It was concluded that the test substance is absorbed rapidly into the skin. An exposure to 0.2 mL/kg bw was lethal under the conditions used.

Furthermore, 3 rabbits were exposed to the test substance on the back skin for 24 h (XVII/112, 1967). An application of 0.2 ml/kg bw of a 55% solution (ca. 95 mg/kg bw) to an area of 50 cm2 of the rabbit´s back lead to death of all 3 animals (3.5 h or 4.75 h after substance administration, in the night during exposure to substance).
