Additional information

There were no studies conducted for the Fatty Acid Polyol with the CAS No. 57675 -44 -2 (2-ethyl-2-[[(1-oxooleyl)oxy]methyl]-1,3-propanediyl dioleate), therefore data from studies of structural analogues, conducted according to OECD Guideline 404 (skin irritation/corrosion) and OECD Guideline 405 (eye irritation), were used for read-across.

Skin Irritation

A study was conducted with CAS No. 147256-33-5 (Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, mixed esters with oleic acid and trimethylolpropane) according to OECD Guideline 404. Three Kleinrussen, Chbb:HM rabbits were exposed to 0.5 g test material for 4 hours under semiocclusive conditions. The rabbits were observed for 72 hours. Skin reactions were assessed using the Draize scheme 24, 48 and 72 hours after removal of the test substance. One animal had very slight erythema from day one persisting until day 3 but disappeared on day 7. No other effects were observed in any of the tested animals at any observation interval (RA-S, CAS 147256-33-5, Key, Cognis, Steiling, 1989, Skin irr., RL2 – not irritating).

Eye Irritation

A study was conducted with CAS No. 147256-33-5 (Fatty acids, C18-unsatd., dimers, mixed esters with oleic acid and trimethylolpropane) according to OECD Guideline 405. 0.1 mL of the test material (slightly warmed) was instilled into the conjunctival sac of one eye of three Kleinrussen, Chbb:HM rabbits. Animals were observed for 72 hours. Irritation was scored 24, 48 and 72 hours after instillation according to the method of Draize. No corneal or iridial effects were observed. A very slight and reversible erythema was observed 24 h after treatment (RA-S, CAS 147256-33-5, Key, Cognis, Steiling, 1989, Eye irr., RL2). No other effects were observed in any of the tested animals at any observation interval.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the DSD and CLP criteria for classification and labelling of dangerous substances CAS No. 57675-44-2 (2-ethyl-2-[[(1-oxooleyl)oxy]methyl]-1,3-propanediyl dioleate) is not classified as skin or eye irritant.
