Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Toxicity to fish

Exposure of fathead minnows to the test substance resulted in 24, 48, 72, and 96 hour LC50s greater than 1070 mg/L. The 96 hour NOEC is 1070 mg/L of PFPA. This concentration of the test substance allowed 100% survival and did not cause any sublethal effects.

Toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

For the PFPA in daphnids (Daphnia magna), the 48-hour effective concentration (EC50) is greater than 1080 mg/L (EC50 > 1080 mg/L). The 48-hour median lethal concentration (LC50) is greater than 1080 mg/L (LC50 > 1080 mg/L).

Toxicity to algae

The 72-hour and 96-hour acute toxicity of CAS# 756-13-8 to Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was studied under static conditions. Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was exposed to a negative control and CAS# 756-13-8 at nominal concentrations at 39, 75 and 150 mg/L for 96 hr. Dissolved CAS# 756-13-8 hydrolyzes completely with a half-life of 2.5 minutes to perfluoropropionic acid (PFPA, CAS# 422-64-0) and a volatile hydrofluorocarbon (heptafluoropropane). PFPA concentration was monitored by HPLC-MS. Measured exposure concentrations of PFPA were 1.77, 3.47 and 6.78 mg/L. The 72-hour and 96-hour EC50s based on average specific growth rate were >6.78 mg/L as PFPA. The 96-hour NOEC based on average specific growth rate was 3.47 mg/L as PFPA.

Toxicity to micro-organisms

Under the conditions of this present test, CAS# 756-13-8 was not toxic to waste water (activated sludge) bacteria at a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L.The 30 - minute EC50 was >100 mg/L.
