Description of key information

The density was determined to be 0,94 g/cm3 by pycnometer method according to OECD 109 guideline.
Literature data: 0,78-0,86 °C.

Several literature sources (peer reviewed handbooks or review article) state densities for various primary alkyl amines (C-Chains between C8 and C22) between 0,78 and 0,86 g/cm3. Original references or methods applied were not stated. The study used as key study was performed according guideline OECD 109 and was therefore assumed to be the most reliable source. The density was determined to be 0,94 g/cm3 at 23,2°C.

The density values [1] were plotted against the respective C-chain length for the alkylrest. The graph shows that the density for various primary alkyl amines (C8 - C18) is inbetween 0.8 and 0.9 g/cm3. The graph can thus be used to derive the corresponding density ranges for commercially available primary fatty amines with a saturated and variable C-chain distribution. In addition, the density of a commercially available hydrogenated tallow alkylamine was measured [2]. The value obtained was 0.94 g/cm3, which is slightly greater than expected but still below 1.
