Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Name:
Calcium tartrate
Type of composition:
boundary composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: particulate/powder
Reference substance:
Calcium tartrate
Name:
Calcium tartrate
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: particulate/powder
Reference substance:
Calcium tartrate
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Based on the assumption that in dilute aqueous conditions of defined pH, a salt will be fully dissociated and will behave no differently to the parent acid at identical concentration of the particular speciated form present, PBT/vPvB assessment can be jointly performed for tartaric acid and for its salts (i.e. monosodium, monopotassium, sodium potassium, sodium, potassium and calcium tartrate) using all available data by means of the category approach.

Overall, tartaric acid and its salts are not considered to be PBT / vPvB since all these substance are:

- ready biodegradable

- non-bioaccumulable (due to their high polarity, as shown by Log Kow values close to 0)

- non-toxic to the environment or human health (not classified according to Regulation EC No 1272/2008).
