Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No studies of toxicity to microorganisms have been performed with cloquintocet acid, however a reliable study of the inhibition of respiration by activated sludge is available for cloquintocet-mexyl, a close structural analog of cloquintocet acid, and has been used for read-across purposes. Given the close similarity between the source substance (cloquintocet-mexyl) and the target compound (cloquintocet acid), and the fact that the target is also an initial hydrolysis degradate of the source, the inhibition endpoints obtained for cloquintocet-mexyl are considered to provide an adequately reliable estimate of the microbial toxicity of cloquintocet acid.

The 3 -hour EC50 based on inhibition of respiration of activated sludge micro-organisms exceeded 1000 mg cloquintocet-mexyl/L. The No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) after 3 hours exposure was 1000 mg/L (the highest concentration tested). The same endpoints are considered to apply equally to cloquintocet acid.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L
