Key result
Atm. press.:
102 kPa
Decomposition:
yes
Decomp. temp.:
220 °C

As a result of the initial low rate of enthalpy change during decomposition, the onset temperature could only be approximated.

No significant endotherms or exotherms were observed during the thermal programs, however all thermograms show a change from plateau at approximately 220 °C, therefore decomposition can be stated as from approximately 220 °C, decomposing before boiling.

The test item was run under a nitrogen atmosphere (determinations 3 and 4) and an air atmosphere (determinations 1 and 2), obtained differing thermograms, indicating that the decomposition was probably oxidative and not thermal in nature.

It can therefore be concluded that the test item decomposed from approximately 220 °C (493 K) at 102 kPa.

Conclusions:
2-Propenoic acid, 2-[[(octadecylamino)carbonyl]oxy]ethyl ester decomposes from approximately 220 °C (493 K) at 102 kPa. As the test item decomposed, no value for boiling point could be determined.

Description of key information

In an OECD 103 study, under GLP conditions, 2-Propenoic acid, 2-[[(octadecylamino)carbonyl]oxy]ethyl ester decomposed at approximately 220 °C (493  K) at 102 kPa. As the test item decomposed, no value for boiling point could be determined. (Envigo, 2016a).

Key value for chemical safety assessment
