The biodegradation rate of N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis(2-hydroxyethyl)hexanediamide was investigated in a study on ready biodegradability and a study on inherent biodegradability. In a DOC Die-away test according to OECD 301A (1981) 9% degradation could be observed in the testing period of 28 days. The substance was classified as not readily biodegradable.

A modified Zahn-Wellens-Test according to OECD 302A (1981) was conducted to determine the inherent biodegradation potential of N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis(2-hydroxyethyl)hexanediamide. The test duration was 28 days and a degradation rate of 84% was observed.

Since DOC removal of more than 70% (76% within 3 days, 84% within 28 days) was observed, the results indicate the ultimate biodegradation potential of the substance. Since no degradation potential was observed within the first four hours physical processes like adsorption to sludge material can be excluded.
