Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Adsorption / desorption:

The adsorption coefficient Koc in soil and in sewage sludge N-potassium phthalimide(CAS No.1074-82-4) was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No. 121 for testing of Chemicals. The reference substances were chosen according to estimated Koc range of the test substance and generalized calibration graph was prepared. The reference substances were having Koc value ranging from 1.25 to 4.09. The Log Koc value was found to be 1.855 ± 0.001at 25°C.

Additional information

Adsorption / desorption:

Three studies including experimental reports and Predicted model data of adsorption endpoint for the target chemical Potassium phthalimide (Cas no. 1074-82-4) with structurally similar read across were reviewed to summarize as follows:

First experimental study by UERL laboratory;2017 suggest that the adsorption coefficient Koc in soil and in sewage sludge N-potassium phthalimide(CAS No.1074-82-4) was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No.

Above result supported by predicted model EPI suite 2017 indicate the soil adsorption coefficient (Koc) value of chemical Potassium phthalimide (Cas no. 1074-82-4) is estimated to be 109.2L/kg (log KOC = 2.038) by means of MCI method at 25 deg.C, indicating that it is has a low sorption to soil and sediment and therefore have moderate migration potential to groundwater.

And supporting data from HSDB database; 2017 for the read across chemical Phthalimide (Cas no. 85-41-6) indicated the Koc is estimated as approximately 100, using an experimental log Kow of 1.15 and a regression derived equation. This estimated Koc value suggests that phthalimide should have moderate to high mobility in soil.

Thus based on the above all available studies it is concluded that the test substance Potassium phthalimide (Cas no. 1074-82-4) has moderate to high mobility in soil/sediment.
