Description of key information

1,2-dichloro-1-[difluoro(trifluoromethoxy)methoxy]-1,2,2-trifluoroethane has been evaluated according to the screening procedure for identifying potential oxidizing liquid described in the Guidance on the Application of the CLP Criteria Version 4.1 (June 2015).

Basing on its chemical structure 1,2-dichloro-1-[difluoro(trifluoromethoxy)methoxy]-1,2,2-trifluoroethane has not to be regarded as an oxidizing liquid.

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to GHS text, for organic substances or mixtures the classification procedure for the “Oxidizing Liquid” hazard class need not to be applied if:

a. the substance or mixture does not contain oxygen, fluorine or chlorine; or

b. the substance or mixture contains oxygen, fluorine or chlorine and these elements are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen.

Any substance or mixture that complies with the above waiving criteria can be safely regarded to have no oxidizing properties and, hence, needs not to be tested and needs not to be regarded as an oxidizing liquid (ref: Guidance on the Application of the CLP Criteria Version 4.1 – June 2015).

1,2-dichloro-1-[difluoro(trifluoromethoxy)methoxy]-1,2,2-trifluoroethane contains oxygen, fluorine and chlorine and these elements are chemically bonded only to carbon, therefore the classification for the “Oxidizing Liquid” hazard class does not apply and the substance has not to be regarded as an oxidising liquid.
