Description of key information

Two long-term toxicity studies on fish with an acceptable reliability were selected, i.e. one on freshwater fish and one on marine water fish. The lowest NOEC derived was 3 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Fresh water fish

Fresh water fish
Effect concentration:
18.6 mg/L

Marine water fish

Marine water fish
Effect concentration:
3 mg/L

Additional information

In the freshwater species study (Smith, 1981), testing was performed with Jordanella floridae. The methods employed were similar to the early life stage (ELS) toxicity test developed for the fathead minnow (Benoit et al. 1982). The study was well described. The NOEC was identified at 18.6 mg/L.

In the marine species study (Adema and Vink, 1981), the toxicity of 1,1,2-trichloroethane was tested on the fish Pleuronecta platessa according to an internal standardized protocol. The study was well described. The NOEC was identified at 3 mg/L.
