First-aid measures

After inhalation:

Supply fresh air; consult doctor in case of symptoms.

After skin contact:

Rinse with plenty of water. If skin irritation continues, consult a doctor.

After eye contact:

Rinse opened eye for several minutes under running water. If symptoms persist, consult doctor.

After swallowing:

Rinse out mouth and then drink plenty of water. In case of symptoms consult doctor.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing agents:

Carbon dioxide (CO2), extinguishing powder or water spray/fog. Fight larger fires with water spray/fog or alcohol-resistant foam.

For safety reasons unsuitable extinguishing agents:

Water with a full water jet.

Special hazards arising from the substance:

Carbon monoxide (CO) and Carbon dioxide (CO2)

In case of fire development of hazardous combustion gases or vapors possible.

Protective equipment:

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Additional information:

Cool endangered containers with water spray jet.

Dispose of fire debris and contaminated fire fighting water in accordance with official regulations.

If without risk possible, move drums with material away from dangerous area.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Wear protective equipment. Keep unprotected persons away. Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes. Remove all ignition sources. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wear protective clothing and keep away unprotected persons.

Environmental precautions:

Prevent material from reaching sewage system, holes and cellars.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

Ensure adequate ventilation. Absorb with liquid-binding material (sand, diatomite, acid binders, universal binders, sawdust). Send for recovery or disposal in suitable containers. Dispose of the material collected according to regulations.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling:

Ensure good ventilation/exhaustion at the workplace. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

Information about protection against explosions and fires:

Keep ignition sources away - Do not smoke. Protect against electrostatic charges. Protect from heat and direct sunlight.

Storage:

Requirements to be met by storerooms and containers:

Observe regulations for storage of flammable liquids. Observe all local and national regulations for storage of water polluting products.

Information about storage in one common storage facility:

Not required.

Further information about storage conditions:

Store container in a well ventilated position. Store in cool, dry conditions in well sealed containers. Protect from heat and direct sunlight.

Exposure controls / personal protection

1. Technical protection measures

The substance is rigorously contained by technical means during its whole lifecycle including manufacture, purification, cleaning and maintenance of equipment, sampling, analysis, loading and unloading of equipment or vessels, waste disposal or purification and storage. For details please refer to RMM report (13 Assessment reports).

2. Organisational protection measures

The substance specific handling procedures are well documented and strictly supervised by the plant/production managers. Facility-specific safety and environmental protection concepts are in place that describe the required process and monitoring technologies for the specific processes. Operating instructions covering a wide range of topics are updated at regular intervals as required and all facility employees receive plant-specific training before starting their activities. BASF facilities comply with legal regulations as ensured by BASF Plant Monitoring.

3. Hand protection

Protective gloves

To avoid skin problems reduce the wearing of gloves to the required minimum. Check the permeability prior to each renewed use of the glove. The glove material has to be impermeable and resistant to the substance. Due to missing tests no recommendation to the glove material can be given for the product. Selection of the glove material on consideration of the penetration times, rates of diffusion and the degradation.

Material of gloves: The selection of the suitable gloves does not only depend on the material, but also on further marks of quality and varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Penetration time of glove material: Protective gloves should be replaced at first signs of wear. The exact break through time has to be found out by the manufacturer of the protective gloves and has to be observed.

5. Body protection

Body protection must be chosen depending on activity and possible exposure.

6. Eye protection

Tightly sealed safety glasses.

7. Respiratory protection

Not required.

Stability and reactivity

Thermal decomposition / conditions to be avoided:

Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.

Avoid impact, friction, heat, sparks, electrostatic charges.

Corrosion to metals: no data available

Possibility of hazardous reactions:

Forms explosive gases / fumes

Incompatible materials: Strong oxidizing agents

Hazardous decomposition products: Carbon monoxide (CO) and Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Disposal considerations

Observe national and local legal requirements.
