Description of key information

The majority of the applications for which this substance is used will not result in the material being released to the air or soil. Hydrated magnesium silicate is mainly used as an adsorbent for both industrial processes and also for public use. The material itself is generally in granule or bead form and produces little or no airborne dust. Talc is a naturally occurring substance and is present in large amounts naturally in the environment. It is not known to be toxic to above-ground organisms and not expected to be toxic in any way to above-ground organisms and thus this end point is waved.
