Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In a study on Ready biodegradability no biodegradation (1 %) was observed after 28 days. The reference compound sodium benzoate showed 84 % degradation after 14 days (Spoo-Kloeppel, 2015).

Additionally, a study was performed to test the inherent biodegradability of the substance. After 28 days 5% degradation was observed. The reference compound sodium benzoate showed higher than 40 % degradation after 7 days and higher than 65 % degradation after 14 days (Spoo-Kloeppel, 2015)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

The substance is regarded as "not readily" and "not inherently" biodegradable.
