EC number: 944-243-9 | CAS number: -
The sample does not generate flammable gases in contact with water and is therefore non-hazardous.
Results of Preliminary Screening Test:
Burning Time (s): 92
Comments: The sample ignited producing a medium orange flame which then spread along the strip. Grey smoke was produced.
From the preliminary screening (S/T) test the sample was seen to burn in a time < 4 minutes and therefore the full range of burning rate tests are required.
Full test results:
Burning Time (s)
The sample ignited producing a medium orange flame which then spread along the strip. Grey smoke was produced.
No ignitions were observed during the six tests. The sample is therefore not pyrophoric.
Not highly flammable solid (shortes burning time ca. 56 s, burning rate: 4.5 mm/s)
no pyrophoricity no flammability on contact with water
The dried substance is flammable as determined in the test according to EU Method A.10., however the substance is marketed solely as aqueous solution. According to the manufacturer's experience, and available experimental evidence on a variety of alkyl sulfates, solid forms of bulk density < 400 g/L are flammable on ignition, whereas solid forms of higher bulk density > 400 g/L are non-flammable. In terms of aggregate state, this corresponds approximately to powders and granulates, respectively.
According to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) of substances and mixtures, the dry substance, characterized by bulk density < 400 g/L, is considered to be a flammable solid, Category 1. However, the substance is marketed only as aqueous solution, and no risk of flammability is expected.
Flammability on contact with water and pyrophoric properties are excluded on the basis of the tests according to EU Method A.12 and A.13, respectively.
