Results:

A measurement chamber with a volume of Vc= 7.8961 cm3and an expansion chamber with a volume of Vr= 6.0848 cm3were used.

Two test series with different weights were performed at ambient temperature (20.0 °C). For results see Table1 and Table2.

Conclusions:
The relative density of the test item at ambient temperature (compared to water at 4 °C) was determined to be: D4R = 1.54 (20.0°C).
Executive summary:

The density of a solid in any form can be measured at ambient temperature (R) with the gas comparison pycnometer. A constant temperature of the environment of the apparatus is regulated by an air-conditioning unit and controlled with a thermometer. The apparatus with the test item is swept 10 times with 19.5 psi Helium. Thereafter, the valve to the expansion chamber (volume = Vr) is opened and a certain amount of gas (Helium, purity min. 99.99 %) is expanded from the measurement chamber (volume = Vc) containing the test item to the expansion chamber. From the pressure drop from p1to p2the volume of the test item Vswas calculated.

Study was performed in accordance with the following guidelines:

EU Method A.3 (Relative Density)

OECD Guideline 109 (Density of Liquids and Solids)

A measurement chamber with a volume of Vc= 7.8961 cm3and an expansion chamber with a volume of Vr= 6.0848 cm3were used.
