Description of key information

The EC50 for the test substance, both in terms of biomass and growth rate, were found to be greater than 101 mg/L over the 72-hour test period. The no-observed effect concentration (NOEC) over this period was determined to be 43.9 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
43.9 mg/L

Additional information

An Algal Growth Inhibition Assay was conducted by Huntingdon Life Sciences Ltd, UK, to determine the effect of the test substance on aquatic algae. The study was conducted in accordance with OECD test guideline 201 and EC test guideline C3, and in compliance with GLP.

After 72 hours of exposure to the test material, the EbC50 and ErC50, were both >101 mg/L with levels of inhibition of 14% and 2% respectively.

The “no observed effect concentration” (NOEC) for area under the growth curve, growth rate and yield was 43.9 mg/L.
